The TLP has been used extensively in Zimbabwe with a range of trained health care professionals (HCPs), SLTs and parents, in many workshops.  The TLP profiles typical development to 5 years of age for normally developing children while allowing for the fact that not all children develop according to expectations for their age.  Thus the TLP has primarily been used with pre-school aged children and those with a range of developmental difficulties and disabilities.  The focus is given to meeting the child where they are currently and the TLP provides a way forward for parents for their children no matter what their ability or difficulty.  Once parents, and HCPs, have identified where children are on the TLP profile, they are then more able to and are facilitated to plan what they can then do to support the development of children’s play, interaction, and receptive and expressive language and communication skills.
